Reduce Injuries with Proper Stride and Strike

Context: Stride length and foot strike are associated with injury risk. How can the risk be reduced? 15 runners studied.

Results:

  • Shorter strides associated with fore and mid foot strike

  • Longer strides associated with rear foot strike

  • Fore and mid foot strikes reduced impact

  • Longer strides increased vertical and horizontal impact

Conclusion: Reducing stride length and landing on fore or mid foot reduces ground impact thus suggesting a decrease in injuries.
